The B. Rogers Gallery is pleased to present “My Daddy was a Logger,” an exhibition of new paintings by Portland artist Kelly Kerwick.

In this new work Kelly investigates the boundaries between traditional landscape art and abstraction exploring the dynamics between the natural and artificial experience of the environment. Without overt critical commentary, the paintings document industrial sites in the Northwest and explore both the visible surface and the reality behind such places.

The densely painted surfaces and wide open spaces on the canvas convey both a sense of urbanization and emptiness. The compositions are symbolic spaces that simultaneously capture the possibilities of the landscape’s future as well as its lingering past.
