An Artist a Day Fundraiser Hosted by Muse Art & Design
2nd Annual “An Artist a Day” Live Art Fundraiser Returns April 1, 2010
Thirty artists create art live in storefront window for 30 consecutive days while raising funds for art supplies in Portland Public Schools
Visual photo opportunities: April 1-30, 2010, 12-5 pm
Reception May 13, 2010, 6-8 pm
Starting April 1, 2010, and continuing each afternoon throughout April, art appreciators and passers-by on Hawthorne Blvd. will be treated to live art-making by 30 different artists for the fundraiser An Artist a Day. Now in its second year, the fundraising event is hosted by Muse Art and Design, Hawthorne’s neighborhood art supply store, and showcases artists creating works of art live in the Muse storefront window, while raising funds to provide art supplies to students in Portland. As each piece of art is completed, the works are displayed and auctioned through silent bid at Muse to benefit Schoolhouse Supplies. The pieces will be available for bidding April 1-May 13, with artwork images and details posted at http://www.anartistaday.com/.
Artists receive a percentage of the sale for their artwork, and Muse Art and Design then uses the remaining funds to purchase art supplies at wholesale cost to donate to Schoolhouse Supplies, a free store where public school teachers can obtain classroom materials at no cost. The event culminates in a reception on the evening of May 13, where artists and the public are invited to celebrate. Last year’s artists included Kimberly Kent, Hickory Mertsching, Shawn Demarest, Linda Womack, Jody Katopothis, Michael Fields, Serena Barton and urban folk artist Ryan Bubnis among many others.
Participating artists will be profiled on http://www.anartistaday.com/, along with photos and blog entries each day of the event. M. Graham, local maker of artists’ oils, acrylics, and watercolors will provide paints for artists to use daily.
