The Mona Lisa

Mar Goman, Mixed Media
Mar Goman’s amazing work involves a wide range of materials and media including a variety of recycled and repurposed materials. Think pieces of rusty metal, old books, sticks, stones and bones, bottles, boxes, toys, vintage fabrics and more. The show includes her series of “dresses,” which serve as stand-ins for the female figure and range from doll-sized to larger-than-life. Sorcerer’s Dress, shown in photo, is covered with a captivating array of objects such as buttons, rusty metal, a turtle, lines of poetry, scissors and more.

Pharmacy of the Soul is a series of found boxes and old cabinets filled with an intruiging assortment of scrolls, altered vintage bottles, scrabble pieces, and original sculptures. These stunning constructions create a narrative dialog that will entrance the viewer.

Linda Welch – re:Order
Linda Welch is a painter, sculptor and book artist whose 2009 show here in the gallery was a huge hit. This month she is showing us new abstract paintings and her intriguing artist books that emanate from a true love of books. Although primarily focused on visual texture, color and composition, threads of storyline appear in unexpected ways. The employment of abstract painting and collage mimics this random fusion of visions. One series we are very excited to show you is 17 unique books made from Shakespeare’s plays.  Preview Linda’s show at: http://www.23sandy.com/welch_2010/catalog.html
