Tilde, 7919 SE 13th Avenue, Portland OR, will host a 1st Friday Reception for the Portland artist Betsy Walton from 6pm-9pm, Friday, May 7th.  Show runs through Monday, May 31st.  In her work, she plumbs the depths of intuition, spirituality and mystery in the hopes of retrieving a beautiful and engaging experience for the viewer. Betsy Walton pushes her pencil and drags her paintbrush in her studio nestled in between a tall cedar tree and an unruly patch of bamboo in Portland, Oregon.

“My style is informed by a range of influences including Byzantine icon paintings, American folk art, geometric abstraction, and the work of many contemporary illustrators and painters. I work with a spontaneous approach and few expectations of specific results. I rarely sketch preliminary drawings before diving into a painting, in the belief that the image formed through the painting process itself will be rich, revealing, and vital.”

Located in Sellwood, Tilde hosts a revolving monthly art show, with receptions on the 1st Friday of each month. Tilde, a modern lifestyle shop, offers a well-edited selection of women’s accessories and home decorative items that are created, hands-on, by either an individual artist or design group. Displayed in a home/gallery environment each product has an artist’s statement displayed nearby to reveal the story behind each item.
