NEWSPACE CENTER FOR PHOTOGRAPHY
Exhibition of Photographs by Melissa Kaseman & Teri Fullerton June 4th – 27th 2010 Opening Reception: Friday, June 4th 6‐9pm Artist’s Lecture: Saturday, June 5th 2pm Newspace Center for Photography is pleased to announce an exhibition of photographs by Kaseman and Teri Fullerton. The exhibition opening and artist’s lecture are both free and open to the public. The lecture is a wonderful opportunity to hear both artists candidly discuss their work and process. Melissa Kaseman Melissa Kaseman is interested in photography’s ability to suspend moments that visually describe significant episodes in her life. She uses both portraiture and landscape to explore themes concerning loss, illness, nostalgia, and place, and to create a visual archive of her personal history. She is driven by an intimate connection to her subject matter and the desire to subtly uncover the essence in the mundane. Melissa began her commitment to photography on exchange at the Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht, Netherlands, and later received her BFA from the California College of the Arts in 2005. She was named PDN30 (Photo District News Top 30 Emerging Photographers) in 2009. Her photographs have been featured in Women In Photography, FLAK Photo, Fraction Magazine, and Fjord Photo, and have been exhibited throughout California and North Dakota. She lives in Oakland, California. www.melissakaseman.com/ Teri Fullerton “Falling in Love at the End of the Universe” Teri Fullerton’s work focuses on the family members of soldiers serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. The work is an attempt to make peace with the heightened sense of fear and anxiety Fullerton felt during her brother’s two tours of duty. She intends the photographs to serve as a vehicle to illuminate shared stories of loss separation, and hope. Her subjects stand in as witnesses of what has been lost, what has been endured, and what is still happening in the mideast today. Teri Fullerton is a Minneapolis based photographer. She earned her MFA from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. Her work has been exhibited in New York City, Portland, Oregon, California, CoPA Milwaukee, Friends of Photography in Ohio, the DeVos Art Museum in Michigan, University Art Center in Rochester, Photo Center Northwest in Seattle, WA as well as in Minneapolis at the Soap Factory, Chambers Hotel, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Minneapolis Slideluck Potshow, Minnesota Center for Photography, and the Minneapolis Photo Center. www.terifullerton.com/ Newspace Center for Photography www.newspacephoto.org Gallery Hours : ...
