July First Friday at Tilde: Bold Poster Art by Dan Stile
Friday, July 2, 2010
Tilde is thrilled to be hosting local artist, Dan Stiles at their 1st Friday Artist’s Reception from 6-9PM. The Portland-based graphic artist will bring samples of his amazing limited edition bold poster style to this highly anticipated collectible art show. Dan’s work will be on display and available for purchase through Saturday, July 31st at Tilde in Portland’s Sellwood neighborhood. We’re located at 7919 SE 13th Ave, Portland, OR.
Stiles is especially well-known for his phenomenal music poster design work. His artwork for Death Cab for Cutie, Sonic Youth, Wilco, The Decemberists, Feist, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Trey Anastasio, Arctic Monkeys, and many others has been called “a visual extension of music”. His designs are dynamic, graphic, and work in tandem with the artists’ music to convey a visual message. “Every job is different. I always try and make something that feels appropriate to the music. The image and the sound should match. Sometimes I’m inspired by a lyric, other times it’s the overall sound that drives the design.”
“Dan Stiles is something of a tour-de-force in music circles, having worked with some of the best and brightest over the last 15 years; from Nike to The Arctic Monkeys, to The Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Perhaps there is something about the US West Coast – living up in Oregon – that gives him his edge. It’s not just that his clients are cool, or that his work has featured in so many trendy magazines – although this is all true. His design talent deserves special mention as a confluence of cool and clever; more than just pretty.” —Watchlist MagazinePOSTER GIVEAWAY!
