All reproductions are giclee prints on fine art papers using archival inks. Each print is hand signed and titled by the artist.

Lisa received her BFA in Fibers from the University of Oregon under the tutelage of Barbara Setsu-Pickett. For the past twenty-five years she has exhibited her work in national and international venues. In 2008 Lisa was the only American fiction-illustrator selected to participate in the Illustrator’s Exhibit in Bologna, Italy and subsequently received her first children’s book project, The Three Little Pigs, which was published this year in Seoul, Korea. In 2009 she was invited to submit work for the “200 Best Illustrators Worldwide”, by the Austrian publication, Lürzer’s Archive.

Located in Sellwood, Tilde hosts a revolving monthly art show, with receptions on the 1st Friday of each month. Tilde, a modern lifestyle shop, offers a well-edited selection of women’s accessories and home decorative items that are created, hands-on, by either an individual artist or design group. Mid-summer chaos is upon us all; with so many events and great happenings in town it’s hard to keep them all straight!

Below are a few sweet events taking place at ART DEPARTMENT in the next few weeks, along with a call to artists/artisans for our first annual BLOCK PARTY event. We’d lo ve to feature your craft at our event, so get involved!!

PAPERGIRL Portland – Exhibiting Friday 8/13!
We’ll be celebrating Portland’s chapter of Papergirl with an exhibit featuring this year’s submissions and performances by YeahGreatFine, Skip Roxy, and more! Papergirl was brought to Portland in 2009 by Abraham Ingle and received more than two hundred submissions. It began with an opening during First Friday and continued with a gathering of volunteer cyclists, photographers, and videographers distributing rolls and documenting the arc of the project. This year’s project will be orchestrated by Steven Schwab and Stephanie Hatten, a Papergirl veteran, and is aiming for a broader, more continual scope, with submissions collected year-round and distributed annually during the summer. FRIDAY, AUGUST 13 6PM

KARYN FIEBICH – Vinyl & Ink Exhibition Friday 8/20!
Collaborating digital illustration with good ‘ol ink and paper, Karyn’s designs conceptualize the world around her. Organic forms entwine with human touch, captivating her thoughts and providing identity and reason. Her work is motivated by natural beauty, complexity, and the under-considered. This exhibit will feature elaborate ink illustrations, detailed vinyl pieces, and graphic designs. Refreshments generously provided by Hip Chicks Do Wine and featuring live music by Goodbye Harrison. Ben Wilson Retrospective at The Art Dept.

Art Department is thrilled to feature a collection of Wilson’s paintings in tribute to such a quiet visionary. This special show is available for viewing exclusively on First Friday, August 6 from 5-8PM with refreshments generously provided by Hip Chicks Do Wine.

While Ben Wilson (1913-2001) spent 65 years painting in multiple aesthetics, he leaves behind an incredible legacy of abstract work. Whether reacting to the growing catastrophe in Europe in the 1930’s or the lingering uncertainties of modern life in the late 20th century, Wilson was consistently a raw nerve, described by writer on Jewish art Richard McBee as “a bellwether in assessing the moral and emotional state of the world. His paintings were the battleground upon which the artist struggled with himself and a world profoundly unredeemed. His art was a way to reconcile this contradiction. In his own words, his abstract images ‘echo our basic nature[namely that] we are not sequential, we are haphazard and sporadic, we are essentially disjunctive – always off target and subject to interruption’.”

Sidestreet Gallery Goes to the Dogs

Sidestreet Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibit of new works by

Michael Pratt

I finally gave in. The whining was relentless. Gimme a show. Gimme a show. Gimme a show. What was I to do, after all I am married to the guy and he was threatening to stop cooking. Sheesh! What a baby.

So here it is. I think his show is appropriately called: “Going to the dogs”, although there are some beautiful cats in it as well.

The opening is on First Friday which, as luck would have it, is this coming Friday, the 6th of August from 6 to 9pm.

And yes there will be refreshments. I for one will be drinking the free wine. Anything for peace at home.
